Hello, I’m Makando Mutanda, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Los Angeles and the founder of Sela, an integrative therapy practice. I created Sela as a space for individuals and couples seeking care that attends to the mind, body, emotions, relationships, and lived experience. As a first-generation immigrant born in Kitwe, Zambia, I bring a personal understanding of how culture, identity, and belonging shape the way people move through the world. These experiences influence how I listen and how I approach therapy, with attention to context, nuance, and the many layers that inform a person’s internal process. I often work with people who feel emotionally overwhelmed or weighed down by ongoing responsibilities, relational dynamics, professional demands, or long-standing patterns that no longer feel supportive. I also support couples seeking to better understand one another, strengthen communication, and move through periods of change together.I have over six years of clinical experience and received my graduate training in Social Work and Public Health at the University of Southern California. My work has included community mental health settings, university counseling centers and PhD training programs. I support individuals and couples navigating relationships, identity exploration, life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and intimacy concerns. My approach integrates evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, psychodynamic therapy, attachment-based work, and somatic practices. I work collaboratively with clients and believe that people carry insight and wisdom shaped through experience. My role is to walk alongside clients as they develop understanding, cultivate inner resources, and tend to their healing in ways that can continue beyond therapy and be integrated into daily life. Thank you for taking the time to explore how therapy at Sela might support you.
I offer a space where rigorous thinking and genuine connection work together. I draw on psychoeducation and clinical reasoning to help adults make sense of complex patterns — in relationships, identity, and the systems that shape daily life. Your cultural background and lived context are taken into consideration — not a footnote. I see clients remotely throughout California and Nevada, with one goal: moving you from insight to sustainable progress.
I’m a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who values authenticity, compassion, and collaboration in the therapeutic process. I work primarily with adults navigating life transitions, stress, anxiety, depression, grief, and burnout. I have a special interest in supporting healthcare professionals, first responders, executive leaders, and neurodivergent adults, and I strive to create a space where all identities are respected and supported. I’m an LGBTQ+ ally and believe in meeting each person exactly where they are, without judgment.
I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with nearly five decades of experience helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges. I specialize in working with men’s issues, trauma, PTSD, and relationship concerns, and I strive to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and understood. My approach is grounded, compassionate, and collaborative, helping clients gain insight, build resilience, and create meaningful change in their lives.
I work with adults who want to better understand themselves, strengthen emotional resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change. My style is warm, collaborative, and empowering — I believe you are the expert on your own life.
As a graduate of the University of Southern California, my training emphasized both clinical excellence and authentic human connection. I integrate CBT and DBT-informed approaches to help clients develop practical skills for managing emotions, navigating relationships, setting healthy boundaries, and shifting unhelpful thought patterns.
I was drawn to this work because I’ve seen how powerful self-awareness and skill-building can be in transforming not only how we cope, but how we experience ourselves and our relationships. I understand that seeking therapy can feel vulnerable, and I strive to create a grounded, supportive space where you feel truly seen — while also gently challenged to grow in ways that build confidence, clarity, and lasting self-trust.
