I am a Brazilian-American Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a great passion for helping others with warmth, creativity and a sprinkle of humor. With sharp insight and adept listening skills, I want to help you set and achieve goals that will lead you to holistic health - mind, body and spirit. I work with clients of all backgrounds and, at this time ages, 10 and up.
My interest in mental health began during my military service as a Survival Instructor in the United States Airforce. During this time, I had the privilege of teaching students from all walks of life the skills to survive in any environment. I became fascinated with human behavior, stress management/responses and the profound capabilities of the mind, body and spirit when faced with adversity. While navigating through the wilderness, a waypoint is defined as "a stop along ones journey." It is a safe place where the traveler can take shelter, rest, gain insight on where they've been, accept and honor where they are, and determine their way forward. It's a place for healing. This is what I strive to provide for my clients. I completed my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Northwestern University. I have experience counseling couples, teens, adult individuals, and groups. As an Airforce veteran, I have a passion for serving military members and their families. Other interests include working with blended families, and LGBTQ+ individuals and their parents
I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who received my master's from Florida International University and my undergrad from the University of Central Florida. I understand the discomfort that comes with signing up for therapy and trusting the process. I feel making sure the client feels comfortable and safe is the most important step.
Gerald Kaforey has over three decades of experience. He has had the privilege of working with a diverse clientele, including adolescents, adults, military personnel, college students/athletes, and professional and Olympic athletes. His approach is very simple: He treats people with respect while encouraging change.
My path was shaped by my mother who worked as a head nurse in a physical rehabilitation unit. I would spend time at the unit and spend time with Dr. Bob who was the Neuropsychologist. It was my surroundings and interest that shaped my passion to become a clinician.
