Do you find yourself doubting your ability? Are you and your family/partner interested in building healthier ways to communicate? Are you ready to heal from the things that you have been afraid to talk about? James Baldwin once said, "Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced." This quote is the essence of therapy, facing difficult obstacles and experiences in hopes with exploration and work things will change.

Women typically come to me when they are feeling stuck at an impasse in their lives. They are often overwhelmed by thoughts that they are not where they “should” be in life which contributes to a cycle of comparing themselves to others and a low sense of self-worth. Many women describe feeling burnt out from always putting others first which leads to feelings of emptiness and dissatisfaction.
Feeling overwhelmed? Believe you aren't good enough? Dealing with grief/loss? Struggling to adjust to life challenges (health problems, career, college, infertility)? Experiencing relationship difficulties? Want to learn how to effectively communicate with others? I'm eager to hear your story. I'll encourage you to express your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace. From there, we will work together to identify problematic beliefs and behaviors impacting different aspects of your life with the goal of gaining a new perspective and using your strengths to create a healthy lifestyle.
My clinical training was in adult psychiatry at Columbia University Medical Center. I earned a Masters degree in Social Work from Florida International University and a PhD in Social Welfare from the City University of New York Graduate Center.
I specialize in working with adults who feel excluded in one way or another either at work, in their family, community, or society at large--immigrants, people of color, those with disabilities, LGBTQ+, etc. Even if you don't identify yourself in these ways, being treated as if you don't belong can impact parts of your life and I want to provide you support.
I generally assist adults with depression, anxiety, health problems, relationship issues, grief/loss, work stress, school issues, infertility, and parenting. My approach is warm, interactive and non-judgmental. I believe in collaborating with my clients to tailor a treatment plan to fit their unique needs. Depending on your goals in therapy, I generally incorporate a strength-based approach using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, motivational interviewing techniques and/or psychodynamic approaches to help increase self-awareness, engage in problem solving skills and teach positive coping strategies.

I have had the pleasure of working with a variety of clients through their struggles and transitions. I work with my clients to explore which therapeutic approach works best and provide them with different treatment strategies and skills to deal with their challenges. I have worked in inpatient, outpatient and correctional settings and have experience with depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, psychosis, Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, Schizoaffective disorders and personality disorders. I particularly enjoy working with clients who experience anxiety, panic and OCD for which I utilize CBT via Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), Exposure Hierarchy and mindfulness. All of my experiences have made me an empathetic and nonjudgemental mental health provider who realizes the importance or providing mental health treatment.
I have built my practice on building trust with my clients. My name is Reana Thorne, I am an LCSW with a decade of experience working with clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, grief/bereavement and ambiguous loss. I believe a strong sense of self can fortify and empower us through what life offers us.
