You may have tried talking to family and friends. That's a good start, but sometimes they can not maintain distance. Finding a professional with whom you can develop a connection is key to the therapeutic relationship. I have been trained to listen thoughtfully, and help you deal with your unique situation. I can help you explore your options and develop the coping skills you need to manage your life productively. My objective is to establish a safe environment where your feelings can emerge and you feel understood.
I have advanced post graduate training in psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, couples therapy, shopping and eating disorders. My style is interactive, and collaborative.
Because we seek therapy for such deeply personal and hurtful problems, it is important to find someone you like and trust. It is also important to feel well understood and free to express strong feelings.I think with supportive and pragmatic feedback, you can get a handle on where your feelings are taking you.
My name is Amanda Egan and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have always had a passion of helping others and I am constantly inspired by listening to people’s stories. There are many reasons people look into therapy and whether you just need someone to listen and help you talk things out or you are struggling with something currently, I can help. I have over a decade of clinical experience. I have worked with all ages and populations. Currently I also work as a Middle School Social Worker and assist adolescents in managing their school related stress and anxiety symptoms on a daily basis.
I specialize in anxiety and depression, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder and many more. I use a strengths based perspective and encourage my patients to use positive self talk. Contact me if you are currently in need of assistance or just need someone to talk to. I am a full time social worker and pitbull Mom but I will make myself available to you as needed.
I encourage everyone, no matter your background, circumstances or symptoms to reach out. If I feel I am not the best therapist to suit your needs, I can provide resources and referrals. Therapy is a big step for some and I am here to walk with you through this process. I provide a safe inclusive environment tailored to your specific needs.
Ultimately, I believe we are all human—doing our best to live meaningful lives in a beautiful yet challenging world. I practice with this mindset and with the belief in our innate capacity to heal when given the right support and guidance. My therapeutic approach is warm, compassionate, and client-centered. I view my clients as the experts in their own lives, holding the answers within themselves. While finding this path can be difficult, with the right support, growth and transformation are truly possible.
I am a licensed therapist in New Jersey (LPC) and New York (LMHC), with specialized training in the treatment of trauma, anxiety disorders, and depression. I am certified to provide Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) to help reduce symptoms of depression, trauma, and other forms of emotional distress. Additionally, I am certified in the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)—a therapeutic intervention that supports nervous system regulation through filtered music.
I hold a graduate degree in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Forensics and Addiction, as well as additional certification in trauma treatment. With over ten years of experience in the field, I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based practices in my work. My experience spans diverse settings, including hospitals, clinics, and private practice.
I have had the pleasure of practicing psychotherapy for more than 15 years helping adolescent and adults in both individual and family therapy. As a minority LBGTQ+ identified therapist, you and I will utilize Cognitive Behavior to explore and examine your thoughts, feelings and behaviors towards more rationally conscious and healthy patterns
Life is about change and some changes are more difficult to navigate than others. When we are stressed, anxious or depressed, it is a sign that our lives are out of balance. My focus is on providing a safe, supportive, nonjudgmental and compassionate space for adults, couples, and families to share their experiences and to help navigate through some more difficult life changes [positive or negative] to create more balance in your life. I have at least 4 years of experience in working with a wide range of people who are experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, family conflict, as well as symptoms of severe and persistent mental illness. I enjoy working with clients who are motivated to make changes to improve their lives, find purpose, and meaningful fulfillment. I would encourage you to create the skills for effective coping mechanisms for overall wellness. I can collaborate with psychiatrists, primary care physicians, social service agencies and will accept most health insurances. Deciding to engage in therapy and choosing a therapist can be overwhelming. Finding a therapist whose personality and style is a good fit with yours is important. More importantly, I see YOU as the expert in your life with unique values, needs and issues. I look forward to helping you to more effectively pursue your values and explore what keeps you from being the best you ever.
I'm ready to help you get started on your journey!
I received my masters in social work from Adelphi University. I worked as a social work director for a number of years previously but I stopped because I really preferred more face to face time with my patients. I got so much more from my time counseling than being in a management position. Over my 22 years as a social worker, I've come across many people with diverse issues and truly have enjoyed all of my experiences as they helped form the person I am, the therapist I am. Much of my experience is working with anxiety, depression, bereavement, couples counseling, life transitions, stress management, cancer and chronic illness counseling, palliative care counseling, caregiver support and community resource and referral.
People always tell me that I'm a good listener. This is my greatest accomplishment and one I'm most proud of because as your therapist I want to HEAR you. I want to join you in your pain or difficulties and help you find your way through them. I may not have experienced what you have specifically gone through or are facing now, but I know how to find my way in to how you are feeling. Building a therapeutic rapport with you will be my first step. Trust needs to build and then most of my work is generally solution focused and cognitive-behavioral techniques. You will see that I am a caring, non-judgmental person. I would love the chance to help see you through your challenges. You've taken the first step!
