Do you feel overwhelmed and consumed by stressful life situations? I just may be your answer to relieving some of the emotional stress experienced as I specialize in providing individual therapy. Everyone has the right to feel emotionally healthy and live stress free. I believe this begins with giving yourself permission to address those emotions/behaviors that are disrupting your life. For some of my patients their treatment includes resolving issues from their past and moving forward. My style with patients is always collaborative, interactive and motivating. I use empathic and deep listening to HEAR my patients.
I use therapeutic approaches that are appropriate for each individual situation. I’m a culturally competent therapist who is passionate about helping you understand yourself, experiences, relationships and the world you live in. My therapeutic approach includes a combination of insight-oriented psychotherapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy. Of most importance to, me is working with you to achieve your goals through counseling session. I strive to meet you “where you are” and move you forward to heal, change and grow in positive ways. I provide counseling on a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, educational concerns, work and life balance.
Are you a college student feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or completely burned out? Or maybe you’re a new or expecting mom trying to make sense of the emotional and identity shifts that come with pregnancy and motherhood? You don’t have to navigate it all on your own.
As a trauma-informed therapist, I work primarily with college and graduate students, young professionals, (including other therapists) middle-aged adults, and mothers who are moving through some of life’s most challenging seasons. That might look like painful transitions, traumatic experiences, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, or relationship struggles. Together, we make space for what feels heavy — and begin to untangle it with care.
In addition to my trauma background, I have specialized training in grief counseling, eating disorders, and suicide prevention and education. I also offer faith-based counseling for clients who would like to integrate their Christianity into the therapeutic process. I have a special interest in supporting women through pregnancy, postpartum, and the complex mental health experiences that can accompany early motherhood.
I believe that the therapy relationship has the ability to provide healing, growth and change. Finding a therapist who helps you feel safe, supported and challenged is central to this process. My style is warm and curious as well as direct and challenging.
I started my work with infants and young children, guided by a simple belief: when we understand the meaning behind behavior, everything in a family can begin to shift. I use play as a primary way to connect with children and understand their inner world. Through play, children express thoughts and feelings they may not yet have words for. By joining them in this space, I’m able to better understand their experiences and help them feel seen, supported, and safe.
My path to becoming a therapist began in children’s media, where I spent fifteen years project managing educational content. That experience shaped how I see children today—curious, expressive, and constantly communicating, even without words.
I went on to earn my Master’s degree from New York University, training at the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Center, where I deepened my understanding of how music and play can help children feel seen, regulated, and understood.
My clinical work has included early intervention, a specialized school for autistic children and young adults, and an elementary school supporting students with hearing loss and communication differences. Across these settings, I saw how powerful it is when a child is truly met where they are.
In 2023, I founded Sound Mind to create a more individualized, relationship-based practice—one where I can connect deeply and tailor my work to each child and family.
I am Samantha Motie, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with four years of experience supporting women through the unique challenges of motherhood. I provide a warm, nonjudgmental space where clients can feel seen, heard, and supported. I understand that accessing therapy as a parent—especially with young children at home—can be challenging, so I strive to make the process as adaptable and inclusive as possible. Whether that means flexible scheduling, virtual sessions, or creating space for the realities of parenting during sessions, I aim to meet clients where they are without judgment.
